The bucket list in Corralejo
Corralejo, the surf capital of Fuerteventura, is located on the east coast in the beautiful northern part of the island. This village is the perfect destination to enjoy some holidays full of surfing, sun, beach, relaxation and fun… with activities for everyone´s taste!.
What you should not miss during your holidays in Corralejo.
1. Visit the incredible natural park ‘las Dunas de Corralejo’
You can just walk barefeet through the fine sand or take some amazing pictures with the effect of the sunbeams shining on waved sand formations, creating a beautiful light… Don’t forget to stop for a moment and fill up your soul with the good vibrations of this desert landscape.
Because the sand dunes connect with the ocean there are endless white beaches, and stunning views over the small island of Lobos and Lanzarote. The East Coast beaches (El Moro, El Burro, Entubadera,…) are perfect for surfing during the summer with waves coming from the NE, and most of them have a sandy underground which makes them perfect for our beginner lessons.
2. Go to the Island of Lobos, pure nature at only 10 minutes by boat from Corralejo
The island of Lobos is one of the best preserved natural areas of the Canary Islands, don’t miss visiting it! You can hike up the volcano, have a walk around the island, visit the small fisherman’s village or go snorkeling in the beautiful bay of La Concha. To get there on your own daily boats are leaving several times a day from the harbour of Corralejo. The best way to visit Lobos is to join our SUP excursion! We go from Corralejo with a fast zodiac to Lobos, where we first visit the old fisherman’s village and then back to the water with snorkeling and a Stand Up Paddle lesson in the Lobos lagoons. You can visit Lobos for a few hours or a whole day, for sure you will love it! Only thing to think about is to take some drinks, food and good sun protection because on the island are no bars and very little shade. More info about the Lobos trips in our Protest Surfcenter!
3. Climb the vulcano of Morro Francisco and catch a glimpse of paradise from the highest point of Corralejo
We are a surf school, maybe this is why we are always thinking in active programs! Just put on your hiking boots or even just flip-flops and start wandering up this beautiful volcano. To reach the top it will not take you more than one hour. Once your up there you will have stunning views over the Corralejo, as well as the north shore and Lobos Island and you can detect the typical vegetation of Fuerteventura with her vulcanic past. To find the right track up the vulcano you can easily take our Protest Surfcenter as point of reference. From here you can see the small football stadium and the path starts right behind it.
4. Try Stand Up Paddling in the bay of Corralejo
As soon as you arrive here, you will see the ocean is the main actor in this town. The coast of Corralejo is forming a beautiful bay inviting you to dive in with a water temperature of around 21 degrees. The top half of the bay has very calm waters, and more to the south side of the bay there are some good surf spots.
The bay is full of fish, and when you do Stand Up Paddle you have a surprising good view of them. It’s also nice just to go cruising and relaxing… just like with a canoe but then standing up 🙂 You can rent all SUP gear in our shop, and with our new inflatable boards they are easy to take to the beach. And if you want to learn SUP the right way, and it is pretty easy to master the beginnings, we recommend you to take some SUP lessons with us! SUP is a very nice way to enjoy the water and disconnect from the veryday routine.
5. Discover the amazing gastronomical variety and crazy nightlife of Corralejo
In Corralejo there are bars and restaurants for everone´s taste. Most popular dishes are fresh fish and seafood, the typical ‘Tapas’, and goat cheese or goat meat (there are a lot more goats on the island than people!). In the town center you find all kinds of bars, some of them like the Banana Bar with an amazing view over the ocean and Lobos, perfect to relax with a good Mojito at the end of the day. The nightlife itself starts pretty late Spanish style, but goes on until the early morning. And in between lots of live bands playing everywhere. You will not be bored unless you want to!
There are many more things to do and discover in Corralejo, and in our Protest Surfcenter we will happily inform you about all local events and happenings. We didn’t mention the main thing to do in Corralejo, which of course is SURFING, because if you are here on our blog it usually means that you already have surfing in your schedule 🙂 But if you didn’t plan any come and try one of our daily surf courses for all levels and ages, including transfers, all surf gear and lots of fun!
